Don’t Think You Need An Editor? Think Again.

by admin on

You have already started your manuscript, and things in the story are looking and sounding great, however, your grammar may be a bit off.  It may even be way off.  What do you do?  You hire an editor.

Everyone can write a book.  Literally.  Everyone can’t get the sentences written correctly in their book, however, nor can they word the story so that it flows as it should, making it an easy read for the audience.  For these reasons, an editor is a necessary addition to the items needed for a manuscript…that is, unless you have the skills to do it yourself.

There are a multitude of editors out there, and you have to choose the best one for you.  They all have different prices and conditions, so read through everything and choose.  The main thing is the pricing due to the fact that there can be a big gap between price when receiving the same exact service.

For the most part, there is a general going rate for an individual editor or a company with their editors editing your book.  Mostly, many require between 500 dollars and up just for them to handle your book – not read it.  Then at that point, you may end up in addition paying 2-4 dollars per page for the edit.  Sounds expensive?  A little, but well worth it.  There are also some that understand the high cost and prefer to keep their prices much lower for the same service.

The reason for the high cost of editing is that it takes much time…much time…editing anything.  Even after the manuscipt’s edit is complete, there still may be errors.  This is common.  There are many best sellers out with, yes, errors, however, the editing process lessened the amount of errors dramatically.

This is what you want – a polished book – even if there is an oops error somewhere in there.  For the most part, the book is ten times better than when you first gave it to the editor.  When the book is published, it will then make the author even more confident with the presentation as a result of a simple edit.

In conclusion, if you are going to write a book, get an editor…from somewhere!  You will be surprised how far it takes you and how much information you can learn to make your next book even better.  There is nothing worse than a review for a potentially good book, but the errors stole the story from the reader.  Tragedy.  Find your editor today as they are great with grammar and great with words.  Don’t let your book suffer.
