Is there such a thing as over publicizing a book? No there really isn’t such a thing because the point of even writing a book, song, and more is to have people read, hear and BUY it! Therefore, whether or not your book is rated as excellent or just a dud, all that counts in the end is that people are talking about your book.
Knock the notion that everything must fit into a perfectly happy world where those who have read your book think that it is an A+ read because this is and will continue to be a fabrication. Too many times has a best selling author gotten a dud review that which tells the opposite story of their book sales! On the flip side, very good books don’t even make it to the best sellers lists, and that has much to do with publicity!
Great publicity is what sells anything prior to the actual test. For instance, when a movie is about to release, there are thousands upon thousands of dollars spent at least a couple weeks to six months prior to the release date. The reason for this is they need it to sell, so they package the movie up in bits called trailers, previews, posters, behind the scenes snapshots etc to do just that – make the public aware that something great is coming!
This is the exact same thing a writer must do for their book. On every corner and every store – anywhere that you can be creative and tell someone about your new book, do so. The book must be marketed many months before its release. The closer the release date, the more aggressive one should become. The audience should already be waiting on it, and you, as the writer, should be ready to sell it.
